The Stone Roses announce sideshows

The Stone Roses are to play sideshows in BrisbaneMelbourne and Sydney, in addition to their appearance at the Future Music Festival.

"The past was yours, but the future's mine" crowed frontman Ian Brown in the sparkling She Bangs The Drums in 1989, and while Brown was quite a prescient lyricist, he couldn't quite have predicted their headlining slot on the 2013 Future Music Festival. It came as a shock to numerous Australian fans as well, despite the strong whispers of an Australian tour that started seconds after the band announced their reformation* in June last year.

The band were volatile at the best of times, and like all the best British groups (The Beatles, Oasis, The Smiths), things ended acrimoniously, and seemed irreparable, especially once bassist Mani joined Primal Scream, guitarist John Squire spiralled off into various musical ventures, and Ian Brown released a string of solo records that far surpassed the moderate success the Roses had.

Still, let's not dig any of that up, The Stone Roses are coming to Australia in March, and tickets go on sale 13 December - at noon!
