Neil Young and Crazy Horse to tour Australia

We were all quite excited when news of a Neil Young album with Crazy Horse surfaced (his first with the band since 2002's excellent Greendale record), even more excited when an odd arthouse video called A Day At The Gallery surfaced online in June, with the band jamming over a couple of chords for forty minutes to ye olde imagery (we know that sounds boring, but listen/watch) and were thrilled when it was revealed that the album would be called Psychedelic Pill.

Stretching over two discs and 87 minutes, the album is both Young's longest to date, and contains his longest track, the epic opener Driftin' Back, which clocks in at a cool 27-and-a-half minutes (a much better use of your time then watching an episode of Two and a Half Men.More insightful, too). More than that, it's an amazing collection of songs, which manages to sound ragged and vital without ever seeming pretentious, which is an impressive feat for what is essentially a jam album made by a group that have been playing together since 1968. The track Ramada Inn is one of Young's finest; liquid gold, and at sixteen minutes, not a second too long.

Oh yeah, this morning The Frontier Touring Company and A Day On The Green announced Neil Young and Crazy Horse will tour Australia with a run of arena shows in PerthAdelaideBrisbaneSydney and Melbourne, along with two A Day On The Green dates in March 2013.

Sorry for burying the lead.

Pre-sale tickets for the arena shows available from November 14. General Public on-sale from 9am November 19.
