Relief has been offered to 'Sugar Man' fans who aren't headed to Byron Bay Bluefest in 2013, with Bluesfest Touring announcing a run of sideshows for Mexican-American folkster Sixto Rodriguez.

Rodriguez will embark on a four-date Australian tour throughout March and April next year joined on stage by surf rock band The Break, featuring members of Violent Femmes, Hunters and Collectors and Midnight Oil, who supported Rodriguez on his 1981 tour of Australia.

Kicking off on Friday, March 22, Rodriguez will play Hamer Hall at The Arts Centre in Melbourne, before moving on to shows at The Gov in Adelaide, The Enmore Theatre in Sydney and the Tivoli in Brisbane.

The dates come off the back of a yet another wave of fame for 70-year-old Rodriguez following the release of the documentary Searching for Sugar Man earlier this year.

The documentary, which opened this year’s Sundance Film Festival, follows the efforts of two Rodriguez fans in South Africa as they attempt to discover whether reports of the musician’s suicide are true.

Rodriguez will perform at Byron Bay Bluefest in 2013 alongside SantanaBen HarperIggy and the StoogesSteve Miller BandChris IsaakWilco and more.
