From the phosphorescent sounds of Mount Eerie, principle member Phil Elverum brings together a collection of his photography work that is bound to both propel and excite your mind though an odyssey of space. The free exhibition will launch on the 17th of January at 6pm, running until the 3rd of February at the charming Chapter House Lane, Melbourne (entrance off Flinders Lane).
Not unlike his music, Phil Elverum’s photography takes the participating spectator into a journey of mystical landscapes, capturing the beauty in the world that surrounds us. Enveloping a reflection on natural atmosphere through intense scenes.
Much of his music and other art is tied closely to his life in Anacortes, Washington, USA in both literal and ambiguous depictions. Mount Eeire, is indeed named after the actual mountain that lies just south of the town, and the influences of these specific surroundings are captured artfully throughout all Elverum’s work.
His creative outlets are released via his own ‘P.W Elverum & Sun, ltd’ company, including an extravagant book of photography. This control has enabled Elverum to become more self-sufficient and explore unusual theories, experimenting with new ideas of mass-producing art and music in a homemade style.
“He makes consistently mesmerizing bold work outside any particular genre and does so with an unaffected sense of humor that is rare in most artists” – Jeff Manson, Bolinas Hearsay News
