First held in 1844, the Festival of Sails is Australia’s oldest ongoing sporting event, and the largest annual keel boat regatta in the Southern Hemisphere. The event has consistently attracted both brilliant yachts and a public keen to soak up the essence of the event. The Royal Geelong Yacht Club takes great pride in its role as host of a Regatta and Festival whose reputation as a global player expands each year.
The Festival of Sails attracts over 400 yachts and 4300 competitors to Melbourne and Geelong over the Australia Day period. For those not competing on-water, there is plenty of shore-side excitement taking place with over 100,000 people flocking to the stunning Geelong Waterfront over the Australia Day period to be part of the excitement.
It is a fantastic event for sailors, yachting enthusiasts and festival goers alike. The 2013 Festival of Sails promises something for everyone; thrilling sailing action for high performance or cruising sailors, shoreside family entertainment and markets, exciting on and off water activities for all to try and above all, a unique Australia Day weekend experience.
