Brisbane four-piece Hungry Kids of Hungary may have been quiet at home in Australia of late, but in reality the last two years have proved to be remarkable not only across international waters, but also with writing and recording their second album - You’re A Shadow - due for release in March 2013. In the meantime, the band is proud to announce the delivery of a brand new single – ‘Sharp Shooter’ – and a tour to celebrate.
The band’s ubiquitous debut album Escapades garnered high praise from media and public alike debuting at #24 on the ARIA Album Chart and being called… “a meticulously crafted, stunningly accomplished endeavour..” by Time Off. With multiple high rotation tracks via triple j such as ‘Set It Right’, ‘Scattered Diamonds’, ‘Let You Down’, ‘Coming Around’ and ‘The Vacationer’ under their belt, the band set off on a touring schedule that cemented their reputation as a must-see live band, their army of admirers growing as each tour and festival slot came and went. The delights of the band’s debut Escapades was also acknowledged overseas with the band appearing at the likes of The Great Escape, Musexpo UK and USA, Canadian Music Week and SXSW and their biggest international festival performance to date playing in front of 10,000 people at the Netherlands Pinkpop festival. This show came on the back of extensive airplay across the Benelux region and a signing to Rough Trade.
Much of 2012 was spent recording their highly anticipated follow-up with producer Wayne Connelly (silverchair, You Am I, The Vines, Youth Group) at Albert’s studio in Sydney. ‘Sharp Shooter’ is the first taste from these recordings, a perfect reminder of the band’s ability to combine their trade-mark melodies and burning energetic hooks.
In celebration of the new song, Hungry Kids of Hungary head out for their first national tour in Australia in over a year, purposefully in smaller rooms, a short, sharp reminder to the band’s live legacy with Brisbane psyche surf-pop duo Gung Ho along for the ride as special guest support.
