A New Beginning

At long last the Willoughby Symphony moves into the brand new Concert Hall on The Concourse. We welcome audiences and artists alike to our new home with a concert of epic proportions, conducted by our outstanding Chief Conductor, Dr Nicholas Milton.

The celebration opens with a blockbuster concerto performed by one of Australia's most extraordinary young artists. The talented Alexey Yemtsov will join the Willoughby Symphony in Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1. This concerto, with its famous introduction and host of inspired melodies will make for a memorable beginning to the Willoughby Symphony's inaugural concert on The Concourse.

Beethoven's Ninth Symphony is undoubtedly the most popular and enduringly influential work of classical music ever written. In his Choral Symphony, Beethoven literally gave voice to the public, not simply by using singers (and thus text) for the first time ever in an orchestral work, but in choosing an 'ode' which so clearly expressed the freedom and identity of the German people in the aftermath of the French Revolution and Napoleonic wars. Beethoven 9 strikes at the heart with its message of hope, brotherhood and enduring humanity, intertwined with its famous, triumphant themes.
