Kolohe Kai is a young island music group from the Windward side of the Hawaiian island of Oahu whose pop-reggae style is inviting, energetic and infectious. The words Kolohe Kai mean fun loving (kolohe) and water (kai). The name is fitting since Kolohe Kais members love surfing, paddling, diving, swimming and boating, not an unusual thing for young people from Hawaii.
The group was founded by singer/guitarist Roman De Peralta while most of the members were still in high school. Their sound is a mix of reggae and R&B with a strong melodic pop sensibility. This young group caught the attention of indie record label Go Aloha Entertainment who signed them in 2009. The band was soon in the recording studio with producer/arranger Imua Garza (Rebel Souljahz, Opihi Pickers, Kaipo Kapua).
In September of 2009, Kolohe Kai released their debut album, This Is The Life, which contains 11 original songs composed by De Peralta. The album soon hit the Top 5 on the Billboard Reggae Album chart, garnered several music award nominations, and spawned several mega-hit songs including Ehu Girl, Cool Down, and This Is The Life that caught the attention of fans from around the world.
The bands highly anticipated second album, Love Town, was released in March 2011, showcasing a more mature, yet still fun-loving sound. In its first week of release the album debuted on the Billboard Top World Music Albums chart and shot to the top of the iTunes top selling albums chart in the United States and New Zealand. Within a few weeks of the albums release, several songs were receiving radio airplay including Typical Heartbreaker, Love Town, and First True Love.
